                     F ulco Santostefano della Cerda, Duke of Verdura, born in 1899, begins his life of internationally acclaimed jeweller from a golden childhood, spent in Palermo fin de siècle. Palermo is a cosmopolitan city and
meeting point of high international society at that time and, in 1920, the young Fulco meets and spends time with the famous couple Cole and Linda Porter, who introduce him to the magical world of Coco Chanel at the many international jet set parties. His move to Paris in 1927 led the young duke to become first fabric designer for the famous stylist and later creator of innovative jewels, based on the revolutionary “Byzantine” drawings in gold and gems. Chanel commissioned him a change to two Maltese Cross cuffs, gift of the Russian duke Dimitri, which are transformed into two bracelets in white enamel, from which Chanel will never separate. Top: five-strand necklace of pink faceted tourmaline pearls of various shapes, with 18 Kt yellow gold clasp; at the centre of the necklace: orchid shape clip brooch, in 18 Kt gold, with cushion-cut tanzanite at the centre, leaf motifs decorated with rubies and yellow circular- cut diamonds.
