 Maison
Founded in 1862 by Alphonse Fouquet,
the homonymous Maison, prominent
name in the field of art jewellery, has
crossed three generations and different style
periods, passing from Art Nouveau to Modernist Art
Deco. At the start, gold production was dedicated to
classical models of the time, decorated by garlands
and lace, then to Renaissance-inspired jewels, sold and
exported to different countries around the world, from
Europe to South America. In 1895, his son Georges Fouquet
took over management of the Maison and, following in the
footsteps of the father in his preference for imaginative and natural
motifs, he adhered to the key inspiring elements of Art Nouveau,
becoming in turn crucial for shaping the new style, also as president of the
jewellery group of the historical “Exposition des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels
Modernes” of 1925, which launched the Art Deco movement. The collaboration with
his son Jean Fouquet was also crucial; he designed not only jewels under his own name but
also created some of the most audacious and innovative styles of the Maison from 1925-1931. The Georges and Jean Fouquet duo allowed the well-established Maison to transfer the talent of the artists from Art Nouveau to Modernism, though in the presence of opposing trends in inspiration and execution.
