The designer VALENTINA MARTINELLI loves to call herself “an artist who reveals herself through technique”. After graduating at the artistic high school following her interest in nature and protection of the environment, she decided to pursue her studies in a scientific field, obtaining a degree in “Science of the environment and nature” in 2016, at the University of Insubria, Varese. Nevertheless, her penchant for the artistic field leads her to build a future for herself in a more creative area, like that of goldsmithery and jewellery, a perfect combination between her passion for sculpture and that of the shine of metals, alongside the transparency and colours of gems. In 2022, she completed an extensive training programme at Scuola Orafa Ambrosiana of Milan (www.scuolaorafa.com), learning artisan techniques such as prototyping in wax and technological techniques such as 3D design and use of the laser. She completes her training by studying the history of the jewel and essential gold design, through the design course, which allows her to understand how the design development of an idea occurs. In the immediate future Valentina also proposes to explore the secrets of
the art of glyptics to be able to sculpt and engrave different kinds of stones, further enhancing the creation of jewels. The approach of the designer to the world of jewels approaches the concept of “artist jewellery” becoming concrete in two ways: “artist” because it expresses her personality through her creations; “designer” because she designs and builds jewels, following the dictates of the material and studying innovation and functionality to support her more imaginative side. Nevertheless, in designing, the artist prefers a rich style and pertinent to the use of qualified materials and, even though she uses mechanisms and complex structures, always focuses on the comfort and harmony that exists between the object and the body who wears it.
