Spoleto is one of the oldest and most art-rich cities in Umbria. Its historic center, unique for its monuments of extraordinary beauty and for their integration with the surrounding landscape, is also one of the largest historical nuclei in Europe with an urban stratification ranging from the pre-Roman period to the nineteenth century. Important capital of a Lombard duchy (568-774 AD), with the inclusion of the Basilica of San Salvatore in the “Italy Langobardorum” serial site, Spoleto has been included in the Unesco World Heritage list since 2011.
