phenomenon known as “prohibition”, born in the 1920s in America to contrast excessive
alcohol consumption. The cocktail ring is large, with a setting embellished over the years and, according to the evolution of the design, a faceted gemstone of important carat, a jewel which never goes unnoticed. This specific kind of ring can be ironically considered a small form of rebellion against the restrictions imposed by prohibition, as it is considered that it was worn by the ladies at illegal parties which had the taste of freedom and rebellion, fun and non-conformity. It is then that cocktail rings become protagonists. At the secretly organised parties, the ladies begin to wear these special rings which, in the name and vibrant colours of the stones, recall the alcoholic beverages they love to hold in their bejewelled hands and sip between one chat and the next. Cocktails, as they were called, were drinks created by mixing alcohol with flavours or juices and served at parties and in illegal bars
