to these objects have changed, surpassed by historic and scientific development. Nonetheless, the artistic sensitivity which presides over the creativity of the jewel, is still inspired by the figure of the animal, symbol of wild and uncontaminated nature, still source of a primordial timeless charm. Bee or horse, owl or scorpion, in the jewellery world the animal kingdom is magically transformed into bangles, rings, earrings and cufflinks. Some are timeless, they never go out of fashion, unrepeatable in their uniqueness; they go beyond the dimension of the simple jewel to become miniature, interpretation and work of art. Sometimes animals have become the symbol of a Maison, as in the case of Cartier, or they have taken over the designer so much to become the fixed subject of all their collections, as for Delfina Delettrez. In jewellery, after the floral and plant motifs, come all sorts of insects: butterflies, ladybirds, bees, are the most represented, together with spiders, flies, grasshoppers, scarabs, and many more. Perhaps one of the reasons why insects are so often represented is the possibility for the creators to give space to their imagination, taking advantage of the bright colours, bizarre shapes and variegated surfaces.
