THE ART OF JAPONISME
THE ART OF JAPONISME
of this is the exhibition “Van Cleef & Arpels and Japan: an artistic encounter”, which ran from 19 January to 17 June 2024 in Paris at Galerie du Patrimoine, Place Vendôme, which presented 30 jewellery creations made between 1923 and 2012, from the Maison’s collection. In its ongoing pursuit of evasion, Van Cleef & Arpels was inspired by “Japonisme” with the creation of the “lacquered butterflies”, a symbol of nature in movement, present in various ways in its principal collections, with a vast range of drawings and materials. Starting from 2004, commissioned by the Maison, the Japanese master lacquer work artist Hakose San has been creating a series of famous decorations:buttercups on the Kikumakie clip, cherry blossoms on the Sakura butterfly and Japanese irises on the Hanashobu butterfly.
