GIOVANNA ROBERTA PISANU is attracted to the
jewellery sector following a meeting with the well-
known filigree artist from Sardinia, Amalia Pirino, and
she decides to enrol in the Regional Jewellery-making
Course at the En. A.I.P. Professional Training Centre
of Macomer (Nuoro) in 1983. Following basic
training, she opens a small workshop in Bolotana
(Nu), where she experiments with her creativity
together with jewellery-making techniques and
managing the different stages of the process. In the
late 1980s, she moved to Rome, where she
successfully enrolled in the School of the Art of the
Medal, of the Polygraphic Institute and State Mint.
During the three-year course, she starts to study
drawing again to be able to model micro-sculptures
in bas relief such as medals and coins, or all round
such as plaques, cups, trophies. In the same period,
she put to use the experience gained in her
traineeship at the jewellery workshop of Rome
belonging to the sculptor Isabella Maggiorani. She
studies other wax modelling techniques with different
characteristics, resulting from a special refining and
polishing of the metal objects. The result is a “mix of techniques” suited to creating jewels of a certain size, which, at the same time, can be light and bright. The training experience in Rome also becomes tangible through the collaboration with various jewellery and silversmith workshops, for which she realises exclusive wax models. She moves to Bologna where she carries out the jewellery-making activity in her workshop/studio with her collections and the profession of “Jewel Model Maker” at various local jewellery workshops, including the well-known jeweller, Stefan Hafner. The designer is currently a member of the Association “Officine di Talenti Preziosi” and is part of the group K.O.K. “Kollettivo Orafo Kontemporaneo”. On this occasion she had the opportunity to become acquainted with ADOR - Association of Jewellery Designers and its activities for Jewelry Designers.
