Il prezioso scettro dell'imperatrice Carlotta del Messico, ricevuto in dono nel 1864 e in seguito acquisito dalla Fondazione CRTrieste, è esposto al pubblico a partire dal 16 aprile 2024 nel Museo storico del Castello di Miramare. Lo splendido scettro è un gioiello d’oro di 22 carati in filigrana, decorato da fregi cesellati da motivi floreali e tempestato di diamanti, rubini e smeraldi. Lo scettro è impostato su una sfera tra volute ed è sormontato da una corona imperiale di fili d'oro, perle e aquile con ali spiegate. Il diadema è collocato su un cuscino filigranato di passamanerie d'oro ed è impreziosito da rubini, smeraldi e diamanti incastonati sulla lunetta. Lo scettro è decorato dal monogramma dell’Impero messicano, completato da un nastro recante l'iscrizione "San Juan del Rio 1864".
The precious sceptre of the Empress Charlotte of Mexico, received as a gift in 1864 and later purchased by Fondazione CRTrieste, has been on show to the public since 16 April 2024 at the historical Museum of Miramare Castle. The magnificent sceptre is a 22-carat gold jewel in filigree decorated by chiselled friezes of floral motifs and studded with diamonds, rubies and emeralds. The sceptre is set on a sphere among scrolls and surmounted by an imperial crown of gold threads, pearls and eagles with wings outstretched. The tiara is placed on a filigreed cushion of gold trimmings and embellished with rubies, emeralds and diamonds set on the bezel. The sceptre is decorated by the monogram of the Mexican Empire, completed by a ribbon bearing the inscription “San Juan del Rio 1864”.
E’ stato battuto all’asta presso Henry Aldridge & Son a Devizes, nel Wiltshire (Inghilterra) l’orologio da tasca d’oro rinvenuto sul corpo del passeggero più ricco del Titanic, il magnate immobiliare e investitore John Jacob Astor, imbarcato e affondato con la nave nell’Oceano Atlantico, nel tragico naufragio del 15 aprile 1912. L’orologio da taschino Waltham in oro 14 carati, con incise le iniziali JJA, è stato venduto a un collezionista privato statunitense per la cifra record di 1,175 milioni di sterline, il più alto prezzo mai pagato fino ad oggi per un cimelio del Titanic. Secondo la casa d’aste londinese: "L'orologio, completamente restaurato, è un oggetto unico nella storia del Titanic e uno dei più importanti esemplari della storia dell'orologeria relativa alla nave più famosa del mondo".
The gold pocket watch found on the body of the richest passenger of the Titanic, the real estate tycoon and investor John Jacob Astor, has been auctioned at Henry Aldridge & Son in Devizes, Wiltshire (England). He had embarked and drowned with the ship in the Atlantic Ocean, in the tragic shipwreck of 15 April 1912. The Waltham pocket watch in 14 carat gold, with the initials JJA engraved on it, was sold to a private American collector for a record 1.175 million pounds, the highest price ever paid for a Titanic relic. According to the London auction house, “The watch, completely restored, is a unique object in the history of the Titanic and one of the most important examples of the history of watchmaking relating to the most famous ship in the world”.
