Oltre 180 opere di Robert Ebendorf, uno degli artisti più influenti nel movimento del gioiello d'artista, dagli anni '60 a oggi, sono presentate alla mostra “Oggetti di affezione”, provenienti dalla collezione “Porter and Price”, composte da gioielli, oggetti in metallo, disegni e materiali d'archivio. Il lavoro dell’artista parte da una formazione classica in oreficeria e argenteria, per poi approdare all'uso inventivo di oggetti “trovati” e altri materiali alternativi come l'acrilico e i laminati ColorCore. In qualità di professore alla East Carolina University, Robert Ebendorf strinse amicizia con i colleghi Ron Porter e Joe Price, che assemblarono un’ampia collezione delle sue opere e di quelle di altri docenti del programma di design del metallo dell’ECU, 31 dei quali sono presenti in mostra.
More than 180 works by Robert Ebendorf, one of the most influential jewellery artists from the 1960s to date, are on show in the exhibition “Objects of affection”. Originating from the “Porter and Price” collection, they include jewels, metalware, drawings and archive materials. He starts out with a classical background in jewellery and silverware, before moving into the inventive use of “found” objects and other alternative materials such as acrylic and ColorCore laminates. As professor at East Carolina University, Robert Ebendorf struck up a friendship with colleagues Ron Porter and Joe Price, who assembled a vast collection of his works and those of other professors of the metal design program at ECU, 31 of which are on show in the exhibition.

La mostra itinerante “La Frontera” viene presentata in simultanea al Mingei International Museum di San Diego (USA) e al Cecut, Centro Cultural Tijuana di Tijuana (Messico), al fine di esplorare la complessa realtà al confine tra Stati Uniti e Messico, sotto il profilo della realtà fisica e geopolitica, attraverso la mediazione della gioielleria, spesso utilizzata per la comunicazione di ogni tipo, in tutte le epoche. Sono esposte in mostra oltre 85 opere di artisti di gioielleria contemporanei, provenienti da contesti diversi, tra cui 24 artisti che sono nati, cresciuti, vivono o lavorano lungo la regione di confine tra Stati Uniti e Messico. Ogni artista ridefinisce le sue creazioni esplorando il significato simbolico e materiale delle terre di confine e realizzando gioielli come ricordi di viaggi e luoghi.
The travelling exhibition “La Frontera” is presented simultaneously at the Mingei International Museum of San Diego (USA) and at Cecut, Cultural Centre of Tijuana of Tijuana (Mexico), to explore the complex physical and geopolitical reality at the border between the United States and Mexico, through the mediation of jewellery, often used for all kinds of communication, in all ages. More than 85 works by contemporary jewellery artists from different contexts on display, including 24 artists who were born, grew up, live or work along the border region between the United States and Mexico. Each artist redefines their creations exploring the symbolic and material meaning of the borderlands and crafting jewels as memories of travels and places.
