modern art and exhibited his works under his own name at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs from 1926 to 1928. His jewels displayed large cubist style geometric shapes. He preferred the use of grey gold to platinum and availed of unusual materials such as ebony and chromed steel, as well as lacquer and enamel. He put coloured gemstones such as aquamarine, citrine, topaz, and others before diamonds. In his book, “La Bijouterie, la Joaillerie, la Bijouterie Fantaisie au XX Siècle”, his father Georges Fouquet wrote: “The jewels which will most probably last the longest are not the flaunted ones, but those in which the metal is associated to rough materials of economic value lower than their beauty, such as aquamarine, amethyst, topaz, or tourmaline. Art, that never ages, will extend the career of these jewels. It will give them their true character. They will never be disassembled in a way that the materials can be used in a different form. They are, first and foremost, works of art rather than financial investments”.
