     Jade Treasures
spread of jade in the West, it did not come directly from the East, but rather from South America in the 16th century, thanks to the Aztecs, as a tribute to the Spanish “conquistadores”. It is no surprise that jade owes its current name to the Spanish term “pedra de ijada” (stone of the side), due to its presumed healing powers for the lower back and kidneys. The definition of the term jade, mentioned in European and Middle Eastern literature, was initially attributed to different minerals, similar aesthetically. In truth, at the end, the experts isolated the only two minerals to which the name jade is due: jadeite and nephrite. Nephrite belongs to the family of amphiboles and is a silicate of magnesium, calcium and iron, which gives it the green colour. Jadeite, on the other hand, belongs to the family of pyroxenes and is a silicate of sodium and aluminium; usually associated to the green colour, it actually has many colours such as yellow, red, orange, white, brown, grey, black and lavender. Jade is also dedicted to an entire city: situated in Canada, Jade City is one of the largest reserves of jade in the world today.
